Campaign ‘Into the world’

The world gets smaller every day: borders open, migrants move, tourists travel. Diseases know no boundaries: consider the threat of Ebola or HIV. The urge for adequate local healthcare grows daily, for both the countries in need and for the sake of worldwide health. Medical doctors GHTM play an essential role in tackling health issues enhanced by migration and inequity in access to healthcare.

It is in this context that a dedicated group of members of the Dutch Society for Tropical Medicine (NVTG) has launched the international campaign ‘Into the world’ to raise awareness on the role of Dutch medical doctors in global health and tropical medicine (GHTM), and also to secure the continuation of their postgraduate medical training. The project aims

  • to increase awareness on the contribution of medical doctors GHTM
  • to gain support amongst a wide audience for the work of medical doctors GHTM
  • to advocate sustainable funding sources for the specialisation programme, securing its future

The campaign includes a book with personal stories and perspectives on international health, a website, a symposium, a social media campaign, and fund-raising activities.
