The German Society for Tropical Medicine and International Health
The German Society for Tropical Medicine and International Health was founded in 1907 and brings together close to a 1000 professionals and others interested in the field of tropical medicine and international health.
Members come from a wide array of disciplines including human and veterinarian medicine, natural and social sciences. The DTG is a member of the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF) an umbrella organisation of 175 Scientific Societies (+ 3 associates) from all specialties of medicine. AWMF represents Germany in the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences CIOMS.
The field of tropical medicine and international health deals with all issues related to clinical and public health of people in (sub)tropical and developing countries. This includes clinical aspects but also, hygiene, microbiology, epidemiological, social sciences and related domains. In addition, the society is active in the area of travel medicine.
Important part of our work is the exchange of information, facilitation and stimulation research in the domain of TM & IH – in Germany and worldwide. Also, the society is consulted by individuals and organisations on issues related to this field, including travel medicine and the development of guidelines.
