FESTMIH is happy to inform that the Italian National Institute of Health (Istituto Superiore di Sanità; ISS) in Rome has been granted as Coordinator of the new European Union Reference Laboratory for public health on food-, water- and vector-borne HELMINTHS and PROTOZOA (EURL-HP). The Public Health Agency of Sweden (Folkhälsomyndigheten; Fohm) will be part of the Consortium. The director of the new EURL-HP for public health will be Adriano Casulli at ISS.
The 4 pillars of the new EURL-HP committed by the European Commission will be:
- Echinococcus spp.,
- Toxoplasma gondii,
- Trichinella spp.,
- Plasmodium spp. (Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia lamblia, Leishmania spp., Strongyloides stercoralis, Taenia solium will also be considered).
