Dr Michele Spinicci is an Assistant Professor in Infectious Diseases at the Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine, University of Florence and Consultant at the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Unit, Careggi University Hospital, Florence, Italy. He is a collaborator in the Tuscany Region Referral Center for Tropical Diseases Study and Care.
His clinical and scientific interests included emerging infectious diseases, neglected tropical diseases, antimicrobial resistance both in high- and low/middle-income countries, travel medicine and migrant health.
He participated in several cooperation and research projects in rural areas of South America, in particular in the Plurinational State of Bolivia, where he acted as coordinator of on-field activities on surveillance and control of soil-transmitted helminths and other NTDs, in collaboration with local institutions and other international partners.
He is a member of the Italian Society of Tropical Medicine and Global Health (SIMET) board. He serves as academic editor for PLoS Global Public Health and Guest Editor for the Internal and Emergency Medicine journal.
