The Czech Society for Tropical and Travel Medicine was founded in 1996, one year after the first European Congress of Tropical Medicine and International Health (FESTMIH) in Hamburg, Germany that initiated to united activity in the fields of tropical and travel medicine.
The Society is organized under the umbrella of the Czech Society for Infectious Diseases (www.infektologie.cz) which was established in 1993 as a successor of the Czechoslovakian Society for Infectious Diseases after splitting of Czechoslovakia in 1992.
Currently, the Society has around 100 members. The Society is organizing regular seminars with topics on imported infections, parasitologyand travel medicine, and symposia at the national congresses of our societies for infectious diseases, microbiology and epidemiology (KMINE) each year.
The Society is focused on tropical medicine and medical parasitology, especially on management of imported viral, bacterial, parasitic and mycotic infections. It is promoting knowledge and the best praxis in travel medicine. The other aims are to provide consultations on diagnostics and treatment of imported parasitic and tropical diseases and to promote of young Society members for research and scientific publications.
